ATTN: Poetry Submission Deadline Extended for The Art of Democracy!
Greetings, friends!
As I mentioned in a previous newsletter, Anne Graue and I are the poetry editors for The Art of Democracy, a non-partisan poetry anthology and art gallery project examining the themes and aspirations of democracy, freedom, equity, justice, and voting.
We have some exciting updates on the project:
Our website www.theartofdemocracy.org is officially live! Check out the story behind the creation of the project, meet the team working behind the scenes, and submit poetry and visual art for our first online anthology/gallery.
We’ve extended our deadline to May 15, 2026! We accept both unpublished and previously published poems. Full guidelines and submission links for poetry and art can be found respectively on the Call for Poetry and the Call for Art pages on the website.
Last, but not least, we have an official listing on Duotrope!
POETRY SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Send 1-2 poems in a single Word .doc or .docx file.
Use Times New Roman, size 12 font, single-spacing. Begin each poem on a new page.
Do not underline titles or put them in bold.
Poems that fit on one page will be given preference over longer poems.
Poems may be unpublished or previously published (list original credit below the corresponding poem, inside your file).
Include a 50-word, third-person bio statement.
Include your social media links (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky), if applicable.
Do not include artwork in your poetry submission.
Simultaneous submissions are welcome. To withdraw a poem that has been accepted elsewhere, email us as soon as possible at poetry.artofdemocracy@gmail.com.
Submit only once during this submission period. Multiple submissions cannot be read.
We cannot consider revisions. Send only work you consider to be complete and ready for publication.
If you have questions or need to withdraw a poem, please email us: poetry.artofdemocracy@gmail.com.
Thanks for your interest in The Art of Democracy. We look forward to reading your work!
